In Q3 2022, the top navigation and maps apps on iOS in Australia exhibited interesting trends in downloads and active users, based on data from Sensor Tower.

Google Maps maintained a consistent performance throughout the quarter. Weekly downloads ranged from 21K to 28K, peaking at 28.5K in the final week of September. Active users showed a steady increase, starting at approximately 2.34M and rising to 2.46M by the end of the quarter.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic saw a notable increase in downloads, particularly in September. Downloads rose from around 11K at the beginning of the quarter to a high of 18.4K in the week of September 19. However, active users experienced a gradual decline from 475K to 454K over the same period.

Google Earth experienced relatively stable download numbers, with weekly figures hovering between 6.7K and 8.2K. Active users remained fairly constant as well, fluctuating slightly around the 30K mark throughout the quarter.

TomTom GO Navigation showed significant variation in downloads, with a high of 5.3K in July and a low of 609 in mid-September. Revenue peaked at approximately $4.7K in late July before gradually declining to around $2.5K by the end of September. Active users followed a similar trend, starting at 862 and reaching a peak of 6.3K before settling at 2.9K.

Live Traffic NSW saw a surge in downloads in early July with 13.1K, followed by a fluctuating pattern, ending the quarter at 2.5K. Active users mirrored this trend, starting at 4.7K, peaking at 12.4K in early July, and finishing at 4.3K.
